TIER 01 // GROUND ZERO

What are ESPR, GPSR & The Digital Product Passport?

The European Single Market is transitioning from paper certificates and static PDFs to mandatory, machine-readable digital identities for all commercial and industrial components.

01

ESPR: Ecodesign Regulation

EU Regulation 2024/1781

Requires physical products sold or integrated in Europe to provide verified digital disclosures of material composition, carbon footprints, recycled content, and durability.

Impact: Affects steel, aluminium, batteries, motors, electronics, and assemblies.
02

GPSR: Product Safety Regulation

EU Regulation 2023/988 (Active Now)

Active now. Mandates that non-EU manufacturers appoint an authorized physical legal representative based inside the EU to handle market surveillance.

Impact: Non-EU shipments lacking an EU RP face immediate customs impoundment.
03

DPP: Digital Product Passport

The Technical Implementation

A standardized digital record tied directly to a physical part via 2D Data Matrix or QR code. Delivers chemical compliance, origin data, and carbon metrics across the product lifecycle.

Impact: Replaces static PDF certificates with live, machine-readable data feeds.
CRITICAL MANDATE FOR NON-EU MANUFACTURERS

The EU Responsible Person (EU RP) Requirement

Enforcement Active

Under GPSR (EU 2023/988), European customs authorities will hold, reject, or fine any commercial non-EU shipment that does not legally identify an official EU Responsible Person domiciled within the Union.

An EU RP is not a mere postal box or forwarding service. The entity must legally hold your component technical dossiers, test reports, and declarations of conformity, and must respond directly to market surveillance authorities during audits.

Status: Fully enforceable. Required on commercial shipping manifests, product packaging, and customs declarations.

BRIJR.IO EU RP COVERAGE
  • Accredited Physical EU Domicile: Official legal representative address inside the EU Single Market.
  • 10-Year Dossier Custody: Secure digital custody of technical files and test certificates per EU retention rules.
  • Direct Regulatory Response: If European customs or authorities request documentation, our European team responds within statutory windows.
